Bangladesh record first-ever T20 win against Australia

The Tigers roared back after struggling against Australia while batting and eventually defended a modest total of 131 runs.

Bowling Australia out for 108 runs in the first of the first-ever bilateral series against the kangaroos in Dhaka on Tuesday, Bangladesh put an end to the Aussies’ unbeaten record against the Tigers. Bangladesh met Australia four times at the world cup level earlier with all four going against the Tigers.

Now, Bangladesh lead the five-match T20 series 1-0.

Three Bangladeshi spinners took three wickets in the first three overs of Australia’s chase.

However, Mitchell Marsh and captain Mathew Wade built a 38-run partnership that made the home side nervous. With his 45 off 45 Marsh particularly challenged the Bangladesh side and when he was out at Australia’s score of 84 runs, their hopes were almost over.

Pace ace Mustafizur Ragman bowled out Mitchel Starc at the last ball of the innings as the last man of Australia. He took two wickets conceding only 16 runs in four overs.

Shoriful Islam captured two wickets and Shakib Al Hasan and MehediHasan took one apiece.

But a lucky Nasum Ahmed got four wickets as Austrian batsmen looked reckless in their shot selection. He was adjudged man of the match.

Commentators said Australia choked to Bangladesh spin.

Earlier, Bangladeshi batsmen struggled against Australian bowlers and managed to score 131 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan raised the Bangladesh hopes but his innings came to an end at 36 from 33 balls at the death overs.

AfifHossain finally helped Tigers with 23 off 17 balls runs to cross 120 runs.

Sent in to bat first by Mathew Wade, Bangladesh batters could not accelerate the run rate required in T20 format.

Mohammad Naim scored 30 and captain Mahmudullah contributed 20.

Josh Hazelwood captured three wickets while Mitchell Starc took two to limit Bangladesh to a meagre score.
