Bangladesh stepped into the World Test Championship in an unexpected fashion losing three crucial wickets in the first session of the first-Test of two-match series against India on Thursday in Indore.

At lunch of day-1, Bangladesh were batting at 63 for three in 26 overs, with Mominul Haque and Musfiqur Rahim unbeaten for 22 and 14 respectively.

Mominul, the stand-in captain of Bangladesh, won the toss and opted to bat first. But both the Bangladeshi opener were sent back to the dressing room within 12 runs.

Left-handed batsman Imrul Kayes, who returned to the playing XI after a year, failed to utilise the opportunity. He has been vulnerable since the start of his innings.

Imrul missed the first delivery that he faced off Umesh Yadav horribly. The ball was to the line of the middle stump. Imrul stepped up to defend it but manifested only his wrong timing. But he was lucky enough as the ball passed just over the middle stump.

However, the southpaw fell after posting only 6 runs on the board. Umesh delivered another length delivery and Imrul managed only an outside edge to the gully where Ajinkya Rahane took a regulation catch.

Shadman Islam, the other opener, followed him shortly. It was a fuller delivery from Ishant Sharma. Shadman went to drive away from his body but there was no foot movement from him. Wriddhiman Saha did not miss a dolly.

The third wicket fell when Mohammad Mithun missed a good length delivery off Mohammad Shami to his pad. The umpire didn’t think twice to give an lbw, according to a UNB report.

However, in the fourth wicket stand, Mominul and Mushfiqur added 32 runs off 48 balls till lunch.

Both of Mominul and Mushfiqur have been dropped once. It was Rahane who missed a tough chance off Mominul at the slip cordon, and Mushfiqur was dropped by Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Score after day-1 lunch: Bangladesh 63/3 in 26 overs, Mominul 22*, Mushfiqur 14*, Ishant 1/12, Shami 1/12, Umesh 1/27.
