A brilliant century by David Warner guided Australia to a 72-run first innings lead against Bangladesh with one wicket in hand on Day-3 of the final Test on Wednesday.
The Aussies scored 377 for 9 in 118 overs at stumps on the 3rd day of the 2nd and last Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
The visitors resumed the 1st innings with their overnight total of 225 for 2 in 64 overs in the day’s second session as the rain washed out the entire morning session and added 152 runs for 7 wickets in 54 overs in two sessions.
Their 1st innings was spurred by David Warner’s century of 123 and two half centuries by Peter Handscomb (82) and skipper Steven Smith (58) against Tigers’ 305 all out in the first innings.
Nathan Lyon (0 n. o.), who joined Steve O'Keefe (8 n. o.) in the last pair after the departure of Ashton Agar, faced just one ball when the bails were drawn for the 3rd day.
The day’s game ended early before revised 67 overs due to bad light.
On his way to 123, Warner faced 234 balls and fired seven boundaries in the 1st innings before birthday boy Mustafizur Rahman sent him back to the pavilion with the help of Imrul Kayes who took a brilliant catch at leg gully at 298/4 in 87.4 overs.
Earlier, Warner hit a century with 112 runs in the 2nd innings of Dhaka Test.
