Hosts Bangladesh made a dismal start in the eight-team Hero 10th Men's Asia Cup Hockey after suffering an abject 7-0 defeat against three time-champions Pakistan in their Pool A match at Maulana Bhashani National Stadium on Wednesday.
With the inaugural day debacle, Bangladesh remains winless in all six international matches against Pakistan and they even failed to score any goal against them till date, reports UNB.
Abu Mahmood scored three goals from penalty corners, Muhammad Arslan Qadir scored two field goals, while Ammad Shakeel scored remaining goals for Pakistan from penalty stroke.
Bangladesh kept their post intact during first quarter of 15 minutes, but Pakistan took 1-0 lead in the 2nd quarter from a penalty corner with Abu Mahmood scoring in the 18th minute (1-0).
Muhammad Rizwan Sr took the penalty corner, Tasawar Abbas stopped the ball and Abu Mahmood hit the ball to take the lead.
Pakistan scored three goals each in the 3rd and 4th quarters of the match against a shaky and shambolic Bangladesh.
In the 24th minute, Milan Hossain of Bangladesh came close to score, but he failed to connect the ball from vintage position depriving the team from a goal.
Bangladesh captain Rashel Mahmud Jimmy was enough unlucky in the 27th minute as his well-judged angular hit from right wing returned to play hitting the crosspiece.
Earlier in the meet's opening match, top ranked India made a flying start in Pool A beating Japan by 5-1 goals at the same venue this afternoon.
