Bangladesh Under-19 team all-rounder Afif Hossain has been included in the ESPNcricinfo's team of the tournament for his brilliant performance in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, which concluded at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand on February 3, reports UNB.
Popular cricket news portal cricinfo.com published a 12-man team of the tournament on Sunday where Afif is the only Bangladesh cricketer who has got a place along with four players from India, two each from South Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan while another one from West Indies.
Bangladesh U-19 vice-captain Afif was a picture of consistency throughout the tournament as the 18-year-old left-handed batsman hammered four half centuries -- two of those came against quality attacks of England while one each against South Africa and Canada - in his six innings with the bat for 276 runs. India and Namibia dismissed Afif before he reached the landmark.
His off-spin was also useful for the Young Tigers, taking eight wickets in the tournament to finish as his side's second highest wicket-taker. His 5/43 against Canada in the opening fixture was undoubted the highlight and he found 3/18 against England.
U-19 World Cup XI: Prithvi Shaw (captain, India), Manjot Kalra (India), Shubman Gill (India), Darwish Rasooli (Afghanistan), Ali Zaryab (Pakistan), Wandile Makwetu (wk, South Africa), Afif Hossain (Bangladesh), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (India), Gerald Coetzee (South Africa), Qais Ahmad (Afghanistan), Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan) and Alick Athanaze (West Indies).
