Living with a phone running on low storage

Living with a low-storage phone might cause inconvenience from time to time, but it is possible to deal with it. You can follow some handy hacks to solve the low storage problem.

Sustainable alternative storage options

Make use of the stashed hard disc drive from your old computer. You can keep your photos, videos, and documents there.

It works as an alternative to your phone's storage or memory card. Sometimes it is impossible to move apps to removable storage. But if you can, move your apps to your SD card.

Connect your phone to a computer regularly and transfer files to your pen drive or other alternatives capable of containing them. This way, your storage will not get cluttered.

Use Google Files

Google Files is an application software that organises files on a phone. The app's features are comprehensive enough for the users to clean unwanted or extra files comfortably.

It quickly lists all the files and categorises them. Afterwards, a user can click and see the files according to their type and choose to delete any.

The app also shows where the unwanted files are cluttering the storage, so the user can save time on deleting the files. Sometimes we only use some apps for a short time, but we forget their existence on our phones. Google Files shows those apps and suggests the user uninstall them too. For large or duplicate files that eat up the storage, Google Files notifies the user to delete them too.

Web versions of your frequently used applications

Using the web is a much sought-after option when a phone has difficulties dealing with the low capacity of the main memory or the hard drive.

Many frequently used apps are available as web alternatives, for example, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram, WhatsApp, and more.

The web versions are more serviceable than the ones that need storage space. They are accessible from any popular browser - Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.

Some browsers come up with instant add-ons to make browsing more comfortable, like Mozilla Firefox has its app.getpocket.com option right along the URL bar.

After exiting the browser, the user can delete the cache and history. This way, the browser remains clear. Using only the browser is better for a low-capacity main memory too.

Consistently checking

Spec through your device every once in a while to guarantee your phone clutters are away. Check which files are eating up your storage.

Your cloud storage may contain large files. Sometimes they eat up space from the main drive. Check to see if any of that is happening. Ensure that your cloud storage is functioning and large files are not eating storage from the hard drive or My Drive in Google Drive.

Take some time off from your regular activities to check on your phone. Clear up the main memory and cache frequently. Delete the history and the saved data from your must-have apps.

If you are running low on your main-memory storage, figure out the problem with your cloud storage as soon as possible.

If that is malfunctioning, find a suitable alternative for all the files saved there.

But check twice before using any cleaning apps like Clean Drive to ensure you do not lose the files you need.

The unopened, junk stuff on your regularly used apps takes up space from your device. Make sure to declutter them frequently, as much as possible. Unsubscribe from the emails and subscriptions you do not find necessary.
