Bangladesh Computer Samity hands over free wi-fi Zone to Cox’s Bazar Development Authority

Bangladesh Computer Samity has handed over the free wi-fi zone – which it set up at 35 locations with 74 free wi-fi access points under Digital Sylhet City Project – to Cox’s Bazar Development Authority.

The handover took place at the new conference room of the CoxDA (Cox’s Bazar Development Authority) on Sunday, Huawei Bangladesh (Technologies) Limited, a partner of Digital Sylhet City Project, said in a press release on Tuesday.

Initiated in 2020, the free Wi-Fi zone covers tourist spots such as Laboni beach, Kalatoli beach and Salsha Beach, with around 9,000 people using free internet there every day.

Leading global ICT solutions provider Huawei provided the products necessary like cloud-managed public Wi-Fi solutions to pull the Digital Sylhet City Project off.

Under this project, people can receive free e-government services using 100 Mbps speed internet. To get the facility, they, however, have to be connected with their cellphone number.

They also need to give their name, mobile number on mobile or pad or laptop for registration. The passcode comes in the return by SMS. However, access to the website and downloading are controlled.
