Bangladesh Academy of Sciences has elected Muhammad Morshed, a Bangladeshi native Canadian clinical microbiologist, as an expatriate fellow in December last year.
The academy elected him in recognition of his outstanding professional contributions to the field of microbiology and demonstration of leadership at the national and international level in the areas of research, teaching and clinical services, according to a press release.
Only 14 Bangladeshi scientists, including Mr Morshed, living abroad were given such honour since the independence of Bangladesh.
Mr Morshed is currently working as a clinical professor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of University of British Columbia in Canada.
He worked at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B), Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Bangladesh Institute of Child Health and Jahangirnagar University prior his move to Canada in 1997.
Dr Morshed also received a number of awards from various institutions for his outstanding contribution in his sector.
