Jacinda Ardern: Youngest female national leader

Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern is the youngest female national leader in the world at age 37.

She is the leader of the Labour Party and has been climbing through the ranks since she joined parliament at the age of 28.

Jacinda Ardern joins 12 other women who are all serving as the head of government of their nations.

These nations only represent seven per cent of UN’s 193 member states.

On her first day at office she was asked the question, “A lot of women in New Zealand feel like they have to make a choice between having babies and having a career or continuing their career. So is that a decision you feel you have to make or that you feel you've already made?”

The question became the talking point of her first day as even in this day and age, women all over the world are having to answer the question of priority between their family and their career.

"It is a woman's decision about when they choose to have children and it should not predetermine whether or not they are given a job or have job opportunities.", said Ardern
