Turkey retaliates against US travel ban

Turkey has issued travel alert on its citizens planning to travel in the United States after similar warning given by US to Americans.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday in this regard.

“Turkish citizens travelling to the United States may be subjected to arbitrary detentions based on testimonies of unrespected sources,” the Turkish ministry said.

Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the reciprocal travel warnings did not help the strained ties between Ankara and Washington.

“The ‘Turkey is not a safe country’ statement does not benefit ties between the two countries,” Yildirim said.

Earlier this week, the US Department of State made a similar warning to its citizens, says Reuters.

It said, "Americans planning to visit Turkey should reconsider plans due to terrorism and arbitrary detentions."
