Six cops die as suicide blast hits SW Pakistan

At least six policemen were killed and 22 others injured when a suicide blast hit a security forces truck in Pakistan's southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday morning, local Urdu TV channel AJJ reported.

According to local media reports, the blast took place at about 9:15 a.m. local time when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives laden vehicle into the security forces truck in Saryab area of Quetta, the capital of the country's southwestern Balochistan province.

Raziq Cheema, deputy inspector general of police in Quetta, while confirming the casualties said the security forces truck was carrying about 30 policemen to duty when it came under attack, adding that there were general threats regarding an incident of terrorism in the city.

Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies rushed to the site immediately after the attack and shifted the bodies and injured to Civil Hospital Quetta.

Doctors in the hospital said the death toll might further rise as some of the injured are in critical condition.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and kicked off a search operation in the surroundings.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Sana Ullah Zehri condemned the attack and called for the best possible medical treatment to the injured.
