Saudi Arabia to accept Chinese vaccines only after booster shot

Saudi Arabia will allow travellers vaccinated with Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines only after receiving a booster dose of any vaccine approved in the Kingdom.

The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Jeddah gave the information in a circular on Monday last.

Referring to the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia, the consulate said, travellers who would complete the additional dose of a vaccine approved by the Saudi government do not need the on-arrival quarantine.

The circular was issued on Monday last and sent to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and relevant departments to take necessary measures.

So far, the Gulf State approved vaccines of Oxford-AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson.

Saudi Arabia made mandatory the institutional on-arrival quarantine for the foreign travellers from May 20 this year.

As instructed, the passengers who got two shots of vaccine (approved by the Kingdom) against Covid-19 and passed at least two weeks since the second shot will not need any hotel booking for quarantine.

 Saudi Arabia reopened its borders and began allowing vaccinated tourists into the country on August 1.

Travellers will also be required to submit a negative PCR test result dated within 72 hours before their departure, and an approved vaccination certificate authorised by health officials in the country of origin.

Saudi Arabia, the largest job market for Bangladesh workers having about 4.2-million Bangladeshi workers since 1976, statistics available with the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training showed.
