The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has provided a grant of 4.2 million US dollars to Jordan to help ease its financial burden of hosting refugees.

Under the deal signed by the Jordanian government with the QFFD, the grant will finance the Jordan Health Fund for Refugees managed by Jordanian Health Ministry, to mitigate its financial pressure, Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said in a statement on Thursday.

The deal was inked by Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wissam Adnan Al-Rabadi and QFFD Director General Khalifa Al-Kuwari, reports Xinhua.

Al-Rabadi praised the contribution of QFFD, while touting Jordan as a model in terms of receiving refugees and sharing resources with them.

The minister noted that hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees in Jordan has a great impact on all sectors and services provided by the government.

Al-Rabadi underscored the need to coordinate international efforts to provide appropriate support to Jordan to shoulder the burden of hosting Syrian refugees, especially in the education and health sectors.

For his part, Al-Kuwari said he was aware of the great challenges caused by the refugees to Jordan's macro-economic and public finances, adding that the QFFD would work with the Jordanian government to tackle the challenges.
