Indian soldiers have killed two Pakistani troopers in the latest ‘unprovoked’ fire in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, says Pakistan's military.

The gunfire from Indian troops on Wednesday struck Pakistani posts near Bhimber village in Pakistan's part of Kashmir, reports the Associated Press.

The situation on the Kashmir frontier remained tense Thursday.

Pakistan's army said in a statement that Pakistani troops returned fire after coming under attack and ‘substantial’ damage was caused to the Indian posts.

It was unclear whether Indian troops suffered any casualties.

The latest skirmishes came two weeks after Pakistan army claimed it killed five Indian soldiers when it destroyed their post in Kashmir in retaliation against Indian sniper fire that struck a school van, killing the driver.

Both sides accuse the other of initiating the firing in Kashmir.
