Arif Alvi becomes new president of Pakistan

Dr Arif Alvi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has become 13th President of Pakistan, according to unofficial and unconfirmed result.

The ruling PTI with the support of its allied parties nominated the Karachi-based politician, Arif Alvi, report news agencies of Pakistan.

Pakistan People’s Party's presidential candidate was Aitzaz Ahsan. Maulana Fazlur Rehman was in the poll arena on the behalf of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and some other opposition groups.

Sources said, Arif bagged 320 electoral votes, Fazlur Rehman 159 and Aitzaz Ahsan 120 votes.
