75 killed in rain spells across Pakistan in 24 hours

At least 75 people were killed and 59 others injured in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods and other rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

According to a report released by the NDMA on Monday evening, at least 27 children and 17 women were among those who lost their lives in different rain-related accidents across the country, reports Xinhua.

The country's southern Sindh province was the worst-hit region with 53 killed and 25 others injured, followed by northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which reported 16 deaths and 31 others injured.

The total death toll in Pakistan from this season's monsoon rains since mid-June has risen to at least 1,136 along with 1,634 others injured, the NDMA said.

Additionally, 1,051,570 houses, 162 bridges, and 170 shops have been destroyed, while an estimated 735,375 livestock perished in the rains across the country, it said.

Rescue and relief operations by the NDMA, other government organizations, volunteers and non-government organisations were underway in the flood-hit areas.
