Bus crash kills at least seven in Cuba

At least seven people were killed and dozens others injured after a bus carrying tourists and locals crashed in Cuba on Thursday, state-run media say.

Citizens from the UK, Canada, France, Mexico and the Netherlands were reportedly on board, reports BBC.

The driver told local media that he lost control on a road between the eastern cities of Baracoa and Guantánamo.

Five of the injured were said to be in critical condition in hospital.

The UK Foreign Office said it was "seeking information from the Cuban authorities" and that it was "ready to assist any British people who require our help," said a spokesperson to the network.

The bus, which was travelling from Baracoa to the capital, Havana, was carrying 40 people, including 22 foreigners, Radio Guantánamo reports (in Spanish).

The road is said to be one of the most dangerous in Cuba, where roads are poorly maintained and accidents are frequent, correspondents say.
