4.6 magnitude quake jolts Alaska's Aleutian chain

Small earthquake hits island in Alaska

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake shook the Adak Island near the far west end of the Aleutians at 3:24pm Sunday, the Alaska Earthquake centre reported.

 

The centre initially reported the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.2, but it is now reporting the magnitude is 4.6, according to AP.

 

The epicentre was 8 miles (13 kilometres) southwest of the village of Adak, which has a population of about 300. The earthquake was 48 miles (76 kilometres) deep.

 

The centre says there are no reports of damage.
