Starvation likely to kill 2.0m children in Congo

More than two million children in the Democratic Republic of Congo are at the risk of dying from starvation, said the United Nations on Friday.

UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said two million children in Congo including some include some 300,000 children in the Kasai region are susceptible to death from severe acute malnutrition.

Humanitarian chief on UN Mark Lowcock will meet donors next week in the country where conditions in many areas are worsening, UN spokesman Jens Laerke told a Geneva briefing.

“We have a great responsibility in the DRC...now is the time to stay the course,” Laerke said, according to Reuters.
