Arab League condemns deadly Tripoli attack

The Arab League (AL) has condemned a terror attack on the Libyan Foreign Ministry in Tripoli that killed three and injured several others.

Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said this "heinous crime" proves that terrorism has no limits when it comes to taking the lives of innocents, reports Xinhua.

"Terrorists seek to disrupt all efforts exerted to realize security and stability in Libya, and to extend the Libyan crisis indefinitely," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The AL chief stressed that the current situation requires more efforts to help the Libyan people overcome the crisis in a way that would guarantee security and stability across the country, protect the country's territorial integrity and complete the establishment of state institutions.

He also extended the AL's condolences to the Libyan government and people, wishing a speedy recovery of the injured.

At least three people were killed and 10 others, including a paramedic, injured on Tuesday during a terrorist attack on the Libyan Foreign Ministry's headquarters in the capital Tripoli.

The attack occurred at 9:00 am local time (0700 GMT), when a car bomb exploded right behind the ministry's building, an official of the Foreign Ministry told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Afterward, a group of gunmen entered the building from the front and back entrances and exchanged heavy fire with the security forces, he added.

In September, Islamic State militants attacked the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation in the centre of Tripoli, killing two and injuring several others.
