Women outnumbered men among the staff of the Secretariat of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in the last year.
There were 333 women and 292 men staff at the WTO Secretariat, situated in the Swiss city of Geneva, in 2017.
The latest annual report of the WTO also showed that in 2017 the number of staff slipped to 625 from 628 the year before.
WTO Secretariat staff members came from 83 WTO member countries in the past year, up from 79 the previous year.
There was only one Bangladeshi among the staff of the multilateral rule-making trade body’s Secretariat.
The Secretariat is composed mostly of economists, lawyers and others with a specialisation in international trade policy.
There are also specialists in information technology, communications, statistics, finance, human resources and language services.
The working languages of the WTO are English, French and Spanish.
