Why no policy on domestic air fare, HC asks

The High Court has issued a rule asking why it should not order the formation of a policy to fix the prices of airline tickets, the ticket cancellation fee and additional luggage charges on domestic flights.

Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed issued the rule on Monday following a writ petition.

Barrister Badruddoza Badal and Mohammed Shahidul Islam Shamim filed the petition to the court. Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state.

Aviation companies are charging indiscriminately for domestic flights charging exorbitantly for ticket cancellation, extra luggage and others services, Badruddoza said.

“There is no policy or regulation for fixing the charges which allows the companies to charge customers whatever they want,” he said, according to a bdnews24 report.

“That is why the High Court has issued a rule regarding plane fare and other charges on domestic routes.”

The High Court has asked the civil aviation and tourism secretary, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, all private aviation companies and others concerned to respond in four weeks.
