Prices of riverine fish further increased last week despite glut in supply.
Broiler chicken and some winter vegetables, however, showed a slight decline during the period.
Prices of most varieties of indigenous fish, especially hilsa, shrimp, tengra, shoul, pabda, riverine rui and katla, showed a Tk 40-Tk 120 hike a kg/piece in a week.
Medium sized Hilsa, weighing 650-850 gramme (gm) was sold at Tk 550-Tk 1000 a piece on Friday.
Big-sized hilsa (above 1,000 gm) was sold at Tk 1,350-Tk 1400 a kg on the trucks run by Bangladesh Fish Development Corporation, a Tk 100 rise in a week.
Riverine rui was sold at Tk 450-Tk 600 a kg and katla at Tk 350-Tk 550 a kg in different markets.
Varieties of shrimp was traded at Tk 400-Tk 1,200 a kg, shoul at Tk 550-Tk 650, pabda Tk 500-Tk 950 a kg on Friday.
But prices of cultured rui, katla, koi, pangasea and tilapia, remained static during the period.
Ekabbor Hossain, a fish vendor at Jigatola Old Kitchen Market in the city, said prices had increased significantly at the Jatrabari, Showarighat and Karwan Bazar wholesale markets in the last two weeks.
He said the big traders raised prices despite increase in supply.
He said wholesales are full of indigenous fish in this peak season as water level started going down in rivers and bills.
Shariful Islam, a Showarighat-based trader, told the FE that high prices of hilsa has caused surge in other riverine fish in major hubs.
He said prices of river fish is much higher now in major fishing hubs this year than that of last year.
Prices of winter vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage declined by Tk 5.0-Tk 6 a piece and sold at Tk 20-25 a piece.
Prices of carrot, local bean, long bean, most kinds of leafy showed a Tk 2.0-Tk 10 decline a kg or bunch.
Prices of broiler chicken witnessed a Tk 10 decline a kg during the period as sold at Tk 120-130 a kg.
