Walton has started its computer production plant, the first-ever computer manufacturing plant in Bangladesh, at its Digi-Tech Industries in Gazipur’s Chandra, recently.
Mustafa Jabbar, posts, telecommunications and information technology minister, inaugurated the plant, which will also create nearly 1000 employments.
The minister said Bangladesh is no more an import-oriented country rather we are on the way to emerge as manufacturer of ICT devices.
Walton has planned to manufacture most of the parts of a computer including multi-layer motherboards, RAM, SSD devices, the minister added.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for information and communication technology, said that the government will assist Walton through buying their technology devices.
Walton Group Vice Chairman SM Nurul Alam Rezvi, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Chairman SM Shamsul Alam, Managing Director SM Ashraful Alam, Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited Chairman SM Rezaul Alam and Managing Director SM Monjurul Alam were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Laptops powered by Intel's latest generation processors along with various models of desktop and monitors of affordable prices will be manufactured at the newly-opened plant, says a press release.
The local brand has targeted monthly production of 60,000 unit laptops, 30,000 desktops and more 30,000 unit monitors, the release said.
The Walton eyes to expand its production capacity and will go for manufacturing of other computer accessories including pen drive, keyboard and mouse.
Production of high quality PCBA or motherboards has begun already using Printed Circuit Board through Surface Mounting Technology, officials said.
