Walton Hi-Tech Industries receives ‘National Environment Award 2018’

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL), a sister concern of the country’s electronics giant Walton Group, has been honoured with National Environment Award 2018.’

This year, the local company received the award under the “Conservation of Environment and Pollution Control” category of the National Environment Award.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the award to WHIL’s Vice-chairman SM Shamsul Alam at the inaugural ceremony of the “National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2018” at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in Dhaka city on Wednesday morning.

The function was attended, among others, by Walton Group’s Director SM Mahbubul Alam, Executive Directors Iva Rezwana and Ashraful Ambia, Operative Director Sharif Harunur Rashid Sony and other senior officials of the company.

This year, a total of four individuals and institutions have received the award under three categories for their outstanding contributions to environment protection and pollution control.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited and Kushtia Pourashava jointly received the award in the category of 'Conservation of Environment and Pollution Control’.

Under the category of ‘Environment related Education and Advertisement’, Butterfly Park of Patenga, Chattogram received the award.

And Touhidul Islam, an employee of Housing and Building Research Institute received the award under the category of ‘Environment related research and technology invention.’

This year’s theme of the 'National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2018 is ‘Live in green, save green, nature decorate with green’.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated a 3.0 million- sapling plantation programme to pay tributes to 3.0 million martyrs of the country's Liberation War on the occasion of 'National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair' by planting a Chatim sapling on the BCCI compound.

While expressing his reaction on getting the National Environment Award, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited Vice-chairman SM Shamsul Alam said, “Walton believes that Green and Bangladesh are the synonym of each other. Walton always gives priority on the conservation of environment and pollution control.

“Thus, at least 40 percent of the total area of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited have been conserved as green zone, including lake and play ground. We are conducting our factory works keeping in mind about the environment protection and effluent treatment.

“To This extent, an Effluent Treatment (ETP) Plant with the capacity of refining 20 cubic meter water per hour at Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited. In addition, the construction work of setting up another ETP with the capacity of refining 30 cubic meter water per hour is going on.”
