The prices of some green vegetables, green chili and broiler showed an upward trend at different kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.
Retailers attributed this hike to wholesalers and claimed that short supplies forced them to sell the commodities at a little bit higher rates.
A kilogram of green chili was selling between Tk 160 and Tk 180 on Friday against Tk 140 to Tk 150 last week.
Traders said some chili fields in different areas got partially damaged due to rain over the past few days.
Green papaya was selling between Tk 35 and Tk 40 the same day which was Tk 25 to Tk 30 last week.
Meanwhile, a kilogram of potato sold at Tk 30. It was Tk 25 last week.
Brinjal was sold between Tk 35 and Tk 40 on Friday against Tk 25 to Tk 30 over the past few weeks.
Broiler sold between Tk 160 and Tk 165 per kilogram. It was Tk 140 and Tk 150 over the past few days.
The local variety of chicken was selling between Tk 400 and Tk 450 per kg the same day.
A dozen of eggs (not indigenous variety) sold between Tk 114 and Tk 120.
It was Tk 96 and Tk 106 over the past few weeks.
Prices of different rice varieties also remained high.
Different varieties of fishes were also selling at high prices on Friday.
Coarse rice was selling at Tk 40 to Tk 45 a kg while fine variety between Tk 60 and Tk 68.
Miniket was selling between Tk 60 and Tk 68 a kg depending on its quality.
Ordinary paijam was selling between Tk 50 and Tk 52 a kg and the best quality between Tk 52 and Tk 55.
According to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), najirshail rose in prices between 10.91 per cent and 16.67 per cent and paijam between 7.37 per cent and 9.18 per cent in the last one year.
Ruhi fish was selling between Tk 280 and Tk 300 a kg. It was Tk 250 to Tk 280 in the past few days.
Telapia was selling at Tk 150 to Tk 180 a kg. The prices ranged from Tk 120 to Tk 140 last week.
A small-sized hilsa cost between Tk 500 and Tk 600. A medium-sized one sold between Tk 800 and Tk 1200.
The hilsa prices increased 11.11 per cent in the last one year, revealed a TCB market analysis report.
Beef was selling between Tk 480 and Tk 500 a kg while mutton between Tk 750 and Tk 800.
Meanwhile, consumers have called upon the government for strict market monitoring to rein in dishonest traders.
"We urge the government to check market prices ahead of the upcoming Eid ul-Adha," Md Abul Hasem, a private job holder, told the FE at Fakirapool kitchen market.
