United Hospital's Cancer Center underscored the importance of cancer screening in a patient forum on Wednesday.
The forum was organised on the theme ‘Cancer Screening and Awareness - Let it start from the family’ to mark the World Cancer Day, says a statement.
Cancer running in a family can pass down from one generation to the next. Screening is an important factor for family members with a history of cancer. Early detection of the disease makes treatment easier and affordable, the forum discussed.
Mohammad Faizur Rahman, managing director and CEO of United Hospital, spoke on the occasion, expressing his conviction that cancer patients are not alone in their commitment to ‘I will and I can’.
He upheld the United Hospital’s sincere effort in treating cancer patients.
“Since its inception in 2010, United Hospital Cancer Care Center has maintained excellence in quality and compassion and has continued to serve the people of this country,” said Mr Rahman at the event.
The event was attended by, among others, cancer patients and their family members.
The patients spoke about how they are dealing with the disease with courage. The role of the family members in addressing challenges and the importance of cancer screening were discussed in the programme.
Firoza Afroz talked about her husband's supportive role in her fight against cancer, while Khaleda Mehzabin and her mother's cancer survival story boosted the confidence of everyone present.
At the event, patients, who overcame cancer, and their relatives expressed gratitude to the United Hospital for their excellent service.
Dr Rashid Un Nabi and Dr Asim Kumar Sengupta and Dr Shagufa Anwar of United Hospital also spoke on the occasion, the statement adds.
