BSRM Group, the largest steel production company in the country, has signed a partnership agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the second time recently to support the disadvantaged people, says a press statement.
Sudipto Mukerjee, Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh, and Alihussain Akberali, Chairman, BSRM Group, signed the agreement on behalf their respective organisations at BSRM Corporate Office at Sadarghat in Chattogram.
Through this partnership, BSRM and UNDP will work together to provide livelihoods and life skills training to the disadvantaged population under UNDP Social Security and Empowerment programme.
Sudipto Mukerjee said that for UNDP Bangladesh, with the encouraging partnership of the BSRM Group for the second consecutive term, the model is effectively contributing directly to the vision of a poverty-free Bangladesh in the post-2015 agenda. This is a testimony that private sector has a powerful role to eradicate poverty while Bangladesh is graduating from LDC.
BSRM Group chairman Alihussain Akberali emphasised the importance of private sector working together with development partners and the government.
"There is a role for everybody, working directly for the poorest households through UNDP's Social Security and Empowerment programme is one of the milestones of BSRM Group's CSR Desk initiative that started in 2013," he said.
UNDP's Programme Specialist Ashekur Rahman, Assistant Country Director Shaila Khan, Training Specialist Kajal Chatterjee, and BSRM Group Head of CSR, PR & Communications Ruhi M Ahmed were present at the signing ceremony.
