Uber to launch bike-sharing service

Uber, the world's largest on-demand ride-sharing company, is going to launch a bike-sharing service in the capital soon.

According to Uber official, the bike-sharing service, ‘UberMOTO’, is intended to mitigate the woes of the city dwellers who get held up in traffic for hours in the capital every day.

Rasel Akhter, a private service holder, who commutes to Motijheel from Mirpur 2 every day, said that in a city where average traffic speed is 7km per hour bike has become the go-to means of transport.

According to BRTA statistics, motorcycle sales has gone up 40 per cent over the past years, as the ride has become the most preferred and cost-effective mode of transport.

Replying to a query, another official related to Uber said the company might announce the launching of its bike-sharing service within this week as it has already registered several thousand motorbikes for its service.

Uber has recently been partnering with and enlisting motorcycles to bring bike-sharing to their app along with their ridesharing options, reports UNB.

Uber, which was launched in Dhaka in November 2016, has already received an overwhelming response from both riders and drivers.
