Uber, the world's largest ridesharing company, has announced its the launch of operations in Sylhet, the third city in the country where people will enjoy the services.
After Dhaka and Chittagong, the on-demand ride-sharing service started its operations in Sylhet on Monday.
“We are thrilled to launch our 3rd city in Bangladesh, Sylhet, and be able to provide mobility options and flexible income opportunities to the people of Sylhet,” said Prabhjeet Singh, Head of Cities, Uber, South Asia.
Bangladesh is currently the largest moto market of the company and the Sylhet launch is a reiteration of the popularity of the product, says a media release.
Bangladesh is expected to contribute 25 per cent of the ride-sharing company’s growth in the region in 2019, it said.
On average, a rider can find an Uber in less than five minutes in both Dhaka and Chittagong and 13 per cent of its rider base now use Uber almost six times a week.
“UberMOTO has proven to be the most efficient way to get around with average speed of 16-17 km/h vs 11-12 km/h on cars, Prabhjeet said.
He said, “UberMOTO will provide a faster and more convenient option for connectivity in the city.”
