The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its interest to invest more in Bangladesh, considering the potential economic opportunities in the south Asian country.
Both the countries discussed the issue at a bilateral meeting on the margins of the ongoing 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)in New York on Friday.
The meeting took place between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of UAE Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash.
The UAE Minister sought cooperation of Bangladesh government in getting lands for setting up an exclusive economic zone for the UAE companies, said the foreign ministry on Saturday.
Shahriar Alam welcomed the interest and mentioned that he would facilitate the UAE proposal.
He also said the newly formed Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) could provide the UAE businesses with services they need to expand their investments and business in Bangladesh, according to a UNB report.
Anwar Mohammed Gargash also hoped that the trade between the countries would increase further in the days ahead.
Thanking the government of UAE for hosting a large number of expatriate Bangladeshi workers, Shahriar Alam also requested his counterpart to further open up job market for different professional categories, including doctors, engineers, architects and technical persons in the construction sector.
The Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs is attending the 73rd session of the UNGA in New York as a member of the official delegation headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
