Bangladesh Railway (BR) on Monday introduced a new train service on Chattogram-Mymensingh route.
A B M Fazle Karim Chowdhury, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways Ministry, inaugurated the service as the chief guest through a programme at the Chattogram railway station in the morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chowdhury said the new train service will make communication easier between Chattogram and other districts including Mymensingh.
The lawmaker said, "Bangladesh Railway will increase the number of trains on Dhaka-Chattogram route as the passengers are increasing day by day."
"I will talk to the prime minister in this regard and the number of trains will be increased on the route as soon as possible."
He further said, "We will start a new railway route from Chattogram to Kaptai. The feasibility test of the said route has already been completed."
Besides, the BR will connect the newly constructed Bay Terminal of Chittagong sea port after its construction, the lawmaker told the event, presided over by General Manager of BR Eastern Zone Jahangir Hossain.
Also present at the event were: railway's Chief Commercial Officer Md Najmul Islam, COPS S M Salahuddin, Divisional Manager Abul Kalam Chowdhury, Chief Commandant of Eastern Zone of RNB Jahirul Islam, Commandant Shafiqul Islam, Divisional Commercial Officer Ansar Ali, Divisional Estate Officer Mahabub Ul Karim, Divisional Engineer Md Hanif, Divisional Transport Officer Tarek Islam, Divisional Power Engineer Saker Ahamed, Divisional STI Chaity Muhuri, and Station Manager Ratan Kumar Chowdhury.
The new train on Chattogram-Mymensingh route has 14 compartments, including five air-conditioned ones.
A train will leave Chattogram for Mymensingh at 9:00am everyday and another train will leave for Chattogram from Mymensingh at 8:30pm.
