The Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha (BTUS) demanded on Thursday that the government and the factory owners pay wages and dues to workers before Eid-ul-Fitr.

BTUS president Habibullah Bachchu and general secretary Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam in a statement warned that the owners would be responsible if any unwanted incident happens centring the issue.

The BTUS leaders also exhorted the government to provide food and financial aid to the workers who have remained jobless due to the coronavirus pandemic.

BTUS office secretary Prokash Dutta told the FE that they would hold a rally today (Friday) in front of the National Press Club to press for their demands.

Their demands included payment of salaries and dues of workers and those who lost jobs due to the closure of state-run jute and sugar mills before the festival.
