Trade gap stands at $6.46b in July-Dec

Country’s merchandise trade gap with the rest of the world stood at $6.46 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year (FY21), according to the latest statistics of the central bank.

The trade gap, however, declined by 21.41 per cent from $8.22 billion recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal year mainly due to a sharp decline in import of goods.

Bangladesh Bank statistics showed that the import of goods in terms of free-on-board (f.o.b.) value declined by 6.80 per cent during the period under review.

At the same time, the export of goods declined very marginally, according to the six-month balance of payments table of the central bank.

Current account balance, however, recorded a robust surplus of $4.33 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year against the deficit of $1.67 billion.
