Tourism Fair concludes with over Tk 45m transactions

The 3-day 15th international tourism fair 'US- Bangla Airline Dhaka Travel Mart- 2018' ended recently in the capital with spot orders and transactions worth over Taka 45 million which is nearly 40 per cent higher than that of the previous year.

Over 15,000 people visited the three-day fair, said a statement.

Of the total amount air tickets worth over Tk 30 million were issued to various local and international destinations by national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airline, US Bangla Airlines, Novo Air, and Regent Airways as they offered special discounts upto 25 per cent.

Besides, some of the leading Travel Agents and Tour Operators also sold air tickets.  Various tour package, hotels, resorts and other travel related services worth over Tk. 15 million were booked the visitors. Special interest was observed in visiting Thailand, India, Singapore, Dubai, Bhutan and Srilanka. A section of visitors bought air tickets and tour packages for Nepal as well, despite the recent tragic air accident.

Over 40 foreign business delegates from Sri Lanka, Thailand,  Nepal,  Russia  and other countries visited Dhaka in connection with the Dhaka Travel Mart.

A total of eight tour operators, under the banner of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, took part for the first time in DTM-2018 attracting huge crowd and generating great enthusiasm among the local travel fans.

In the domestic sector, visitors showed most interests in tour packages to Sunderban, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Sylhet.

A seminar on “Riverine Tourism : Bangladesh Perspective was held on the concluding day, where shipping Minister AKM Shahjahan Khan, MP was the Chief Guest and Dr. Md. Nasiruddin,  CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board was the Special Guest. Moderated by Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor, The Bangladesh Monitor, Chief Editor, Raquib Siddiqui presented the key-note paper.
