The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will honour a total of 252 corporate and individual taxpayers for their highest payment of income tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) to the public exchequer.
It issued three separate Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs), dated November 16, 2021, with the names of the top taxpayers in different categories.
As per the National Tax Card Policy - 2010 (amended) and the Highest VAT Payers' Award Giving Policy - 2005 (amended), the NBR has selected the top taxpayers.
However, the highest taxpayers having legal dispute has been dropped from the list of award winners as per the policies.
On the basis of income tax payment in fiscal year 2020-21, a total of 141 taxpayers - 75 individuals, 54 companies and 12 in other categories - won the tax card.
The revenue board will honour nine corporate taxpayers for their highest payment of VAT at national level for FY2019-20.
Some 102 district-level businesses would receive the top VAT payers' award too.
Talking to the FE, Dr Abdul Mannan Sikder, member of the VAT implementation and monitoring wing, said the NBR will hand over the award to the nine companies at national level at a programme in the city.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is expected to attend the programme to award the taxpayers.
"The nation would observe the National VAT Day - 2021 on December 10 and VAT Week from December 10 to 15 next," he added.
The district-level top VAT payers would receive the honour from their respective VAT zones, he added.
