Tofail rules out scope of price hike during Ramadan

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Sunday reiterated again that there is no scope for any price hike or artificial crisis of commodities during the month of Ramadan.

"Sufficient sugar, gram, edible oil, lentil and dates along with other commodities are in stock. The stock is few times more than the demand. Stern action will be taken for any move of manipulation in the market," he added.

The minister said it while was addressing a view exchange meeting with businessmen to keep the price of essential commodities stable at his secretariat office, according to BSS.

He urged the media to publish report with the actual picture of market stating that there is no crisis of those products or no price hike in the international market.

The minister also requested the traders to play a responsible role to avoid any suffering of consumers.

Commerce secretary Shubhashish Bose, Tariff Commission Chairman Zahir Uddin Ahmed, businessmen and officials concerned were present.
