The public and private electricity users owe a total of Tk 85.56 billion in outstanding bills to the Power Division.
Of the total amount, Tk 69.63 billion is remaining pending with private clients, Tk 7.47 billion with public departments, Tk 1.97 billion with autonomous organisations and Tk 6.50 billion with local government sector.
The highest amount of Tk 37.97 billion in pending bills among the power distribution companies is witnessed by Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board.
These figures were disclosed Thursday in a report of the Power Division presented in a meeting of the JS body on power ministry. Committee chairman Shahiduzzaman Sarker briefed the media after the 16th meeting.
He said that the committee suggested measures for quick collection of the outstanding bills and use of prepaid meters across the country. The committee also recommended discussion on the issue at the secretary committee meeting to collect the pending bills of the public departments.
