Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed concern over Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA)'s rejection of a recent household survey on corruption in service sector.
Instead of taking proper steps to curb irregularities and corruption, BRTA is denying the truth, said a statement issued by the anti-graft watchdog on Tuesday.
It also thinks that such attempts will create barrier to ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability by the government.
But BRTA did not mention why it termed the survey report baseless, false and fabricated, the statement added.
However, TIB sent a letter to BRTA, explaining its position.
TIB made public the report on 'corruption in service sector: national household survey 2017' on August 30 this year.
According to the survey, law enforcing agencies emerged as most corrupt in the country's service sector, followed by passport 67.3 per cent and BRTA 65.4 per cent.
In the statement, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said the survey was conducted following the standard scientific method and statistics.
"The survey findings are scientifically correct and objective, but not fabricated or imaginary," he added.
Praising some recent initiatives taken by BRTA as part of establishing good governance by the government, Mr Zaman said these initiatives are important.
But experience-based research on service receivers is the best way to know to what extent these are followed at service level, he added.
