Thrust on developing entrepreneurship ethos

The First International Expo, Summit and Elevator Pitch began in Dhaka on Friday aiming to help creating employment opportunities through developing entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.

The two-day long programme is being organised by Entreprenurial Economists Club of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), a constituent institution of the University of Dhaka, on its premises.

Speakers at the inauguration session underscored the need for achieving sustainable economic development through expediting entrepreneurship initiatives in the country.

They also urged the government to declare a day as 'Entrepreneurship Day' each year to build awareness among the people .

Prof. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, vice chancellor of World University of Bangladesh, inaugurated the programme putting thrust on the need for entrepreneurship development as the government is trying for skill enhancement.

Prof. Muhammad Mahboob Ali of the DScE said the present government is pro-people and as such one day must be declared as 'Entrepreneurship Day' each year.

Dr. Ali also requested for micro savings through community banking in the line with the Prime Minister's idea to generate employment opportunities.

Among others, Prof. Faridul Islam of Morgan State University in the United States, Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank Ali Hossain Prodhania, Executive Director of Hope for the Poorest Mahiul Kadir and Assistant Professor of the DScE Rehana Parvin also spoke on the occasion.

A total of 12 teams from Dhaka University, Chittagong University, American International University, Bangladesh University, Mohammadpur Central University College and DScE are taking part at the event.

The programme will be concluded today (Saturday) through an award giving ceremony.

The organisers said the event was assisted by Morgan State University of the USA, Naresuan University of Thailand, Global Entrepreneurship Grid of India and Management Development Institute at Murshidabad in India.
