The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has increased tariff value of aluminum rod, bar and profiles to US$3.5 from $2.2 per kilogram.
NBR has taken the decision for increasing protective tax rates for the local manufacturing companies.
Customs wing of the NBR issued a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO), dated November 23, 2017, increasing the import value of the product.
With the rise, local industries will be able to enjoy 43.5 per cent tax protection than that of the imported ones.
The NBR increased the value following demand of the local industries to sustain in the competition with the imported products.
According to the local manufacturer, finished product is currently much cheaper than that of the locally produced aluminum profile.
They also claimed that domestic industries have sufficient production to meet the local demand.
