Tanvir Ahmed, Director of Envoy Group and Sheltech Limited, has been awarded the commercially important person (CIP) status for making outstanding contributions to the country's economy. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the CIP card to him at an award giving ceremony held in a city hotel.

The programme was jointly hosted by the Commerce Ministry and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Monday.

Mr Tanvir was primarily recognised for his contributions to the export sector. The Envoy Group director was one of the 178 businesspeople to get the recognition, says a press release Wednesday.

Of the awardees, 136 received the status for exporting 19 product varieties.

Forty-two persons will enjoy the status being the ex-officio members of the apex trade body, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

As a CIP, Mr Tanvir will get priority over access to the secretariat, including invitations to various national events, reservation of seats in aircraft, rail, roads and vessels.

Young entrepreneur Tanvir Ahmed is involved in various businesses such as textiles, ceramics, real-estate, hotels and more. He is the son of former BGMEA President Kutubuddin Ahmed.
