For the first time in the division, a 'Solar Charging Station' along the bypass road in Biswanath upazila in Sylhet is all set to be inaugurated in the first week of June.
The solar powered charging station with 21 kilowatt capacity will charge human haulers and battery run auto-rickshaws.
Sylhet Palli Bidyut Shamity - 1 took the initiative to introduce the charging station with a cost of Tk 5 million aiming to reduce pressure on national power grid, sources at the shamity said.
Power will be generated by using sunlight and the station will run without any electricity, Senior General Manager Mahbub Alam of Palli Bidyut Shamity-1 told the media.
"Once the station is launched, it will help reduce pressure on the national grid as well as load shedding in the area," he added.
Some 500-600 battery-run vehicles are consuming power from the national grid, which results in frequent electricity cuts in the upazila.
Komolesh Barman, deputy general manager of Biswanath zonal, said, "The solar charging station will be inaugurated this week."
The owners and drivers of human haulers and auto-rickshaws will be able to charge their vehicles at a low cost and hopefully benefit through the project, he added, reports UNB.
