Standard Chartered inks deal with Friendship

Standard Chartered Bank and Friendship (a non-governmental organisation) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to reduce avoidable blindness among the marginalised people in the coastal area of Bangladesh.

They have taken the initiative for the hard-to-reach communities in coastal belt of the country with a vision to provide quality eye care services, including eye screening and cataract removal surgery, through the Rangdhanu Friendship Hospital.

Under the MoU, Standard Chartered Bank will sponsor 400 cataract surgeries to Friendship for the coastal people, says a press release.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank, and Runa Khan, Founder and Executive Director of Friendship, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.

Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Country Head of Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered Bank and Golam Rasul, Director and Head of Health, Friendship, were also present at the signing ceremony.

This year Standard Chartered Bank is celebrating 15th year of its ‘Seeing is Believing’ project which has helped over 150 million people by funding 160 eye-care projects in underprivileged communities globally, the release said.
