With a view to providing tailoring training to 5000 underprivileged women in Bangladesh, Brac and Singer Bangladesh Limited jointly launched a special project titled ‘Obolombon’.
The project aims at empowering women so that they can be self-dependent and improve their socio-economic conditions.
Under the initiative, women living below the poverty line will receive free tailoring training at 20 Brac centres across the country and get sewing accessories free of cost.
The first batch of the trainees received certificates at Katlapur at Savar on Thursday last after successful completion of the two-month tailoring course under the Singer-Brac joint project, said a media release.
Darfin Akhter, Savar Municipality Councillor, Ahsan Ullah Labu, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Human Rights Council, Raziur Rahman, Senior Manager - Marketing Communication of SINGER Bangladesh Ltd and Mazharul Islam, Skill Development Manager of Brac distributed the certificates among 44 women in Savar who completed the tailoring course.
Among others, from Singer Bangladesh Ltd, Deputy Manager - Education Nazmun Nahar, Assistant Manager - Education Lubna Hamid, Assistant Manager - Marketing Communication Nazmus Saqib and Marketing Officer Munmun Rahman while Communication Specialist Amina Akba; Officer – Operation, Amir Khasru, Field Co-ordinator Shohag Mojumder, Project Officer- Enayet and Trainer Tumpa Wadud from Brac attended the ceremony.
