Shameem Ahsan, Chairman of eGeneration Group and a director of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), has been awarded the CIP (Commercially Important Person) status for his contribution to the country's ICT sector.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the CIP cards among the awardees on Monday at a ceremony held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Dhaka. Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), President of FBCCI was present as a Special Guest among others, says a press release on Wednesday.
As a CIP, Mr Shameem will get priority over access to the secretariat, including invitations to various national events, reservation of seats in aircraft, rail, roads and vessels.
"I am honored to be receiving the CIP status and I look at it as a big motivation for myself to work harder for the development of ICT sector," Mr Shameem Ahsan said while receiving the award.
The eGeneration Group chairman is one of the foremost figures in the Bangladeshi ICT industry. He played a pivotal role in the implementation of all the major policy changes related to the ICT sector in last one decade.
Mr Shameem is a General Partner of Fenox Venture Capital, a US$ 1.5 billion fund headquartered in Silicon Valley.
The former BASIS President is currently serving as a Director of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBBCI), Director of Agrani Bank Ltd. and Chairman of Venture Capital, and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB). His eGeneration Group is among the largest IT conglomerates in the country.
