Despite the growth of the e-commerce sector in the country, export-oriented and cross-border e-commerce businesses are not widening due to various obstacles, stakeholders have said.
e-CAB brought this issue to the government's attention over a year ago, they said, adding problems and opportunities of export and import-dependent e-commerce businesses were highlighted at many government departments including the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Department of Post and ICT Division.
The stakeholders said this in a workshop at Daffodil International University Ashulia Campus on Saturday.
Hafizur Rahman, Director General of WTO Cell and also Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general at Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP), among others, attended the event.
Speaking at the workshop, Hafizur Rahman said the online entry of Bangladeshi products into the foreign market will be easier by developing a policy in coordination with international law and the policies of other countries.
AHM Shafiquzzaman said that various departments of the government are directly connected with import and export trade.
Creating an up-to-date policy involving all parties can open the doors of immense potential for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, he added.
e-CAB president Shomi Kaiser and its general secretary Abdul Waheed Tamal also spoke at the programme.
