Leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have urged the government to set up a separate chemical zone as per its earlier decision to facilitate chemical business.

They also called for steps to ease the process of issuance and renewal of licences of chemical business.

The apex trade body made the call at a meeting of its standing committee relating to the ministry of industries (productivity and related chemical) at its conference room in the city on Thursday.

At the meeting, the business leaders said chemicals are the main element of most of the industries, including readymade garment (RMG), agriculture, pharmaceuticals, power and research activities.

Bangladesh has earned Tk 12 billion by exporting chemicals in the last fiscal year, they said.

They sought necessary cooperation from the government in boosting this sector.

They also focused on increasing productivity in the industries and all other workplaces.

Director in-charge of the committee Md Nizam Uddin presented the detailed future plan of the committee.

He outlined plans for solving the existing problems in the chemical sector after approval from the FBCCI board.

Chairman of the standing committee Mohammad Ullah Palash presided over the meeting.

FBCCI vice president Md Muntakim Ashraf, directors Abu Motaleb, Azizul Hoque, Priti Chakraborty and Hafez Harun-Or-Roshid, senior research officer of the ministry of industries ATM Mozammel Haque and representatives from different government and private organisations attended the meeting.
