Russian firm to supervise Rooppur nuke plant

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday approved a total of 10 proposals, including one to appoint Russian state regulatory Rostekhnadzor as security and supervision consultant of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.

The committee gave the approval to the proposals at a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

As per the proposal placed by the Science and Technology Ministry, Rostekhnadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision, will work as consultant for 11 years at a cost of Tk  13.54 billion (Tk 1,354 crore), reports UNB.

Russian state nuclear agency Rosatom has been engaged in building the 2,400MW power plant at a cost of $12.65 billion.

The committee approved a proposal of the Power Division to award contract to a consortium of Unique Hotel and Resort Ltd, Strategic Finance Limited and its partner to set up 600MW combined cycle power plant in Narayanganj on build-own-operate (boo) basis.

The plant will run by gas or R-LNG and the government will purchase electricity from the plant at Tk 2.95 per unit in gas and Tk 5.45 per unit in R-LNG over a period of 22 years.

A proposal to award a contract for construction of international passenger terminal at Cox's Bazar airport at a cost of Tk 2.75 billion (Tk 275 crore) received the nod of the committee.

The committee okayed a tender awarding to National Development Limited for the work for extension of export cargo terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at a cost of Tk 1.55 billion (Tk 155.26 crore).

The committee also approved a proposal of the Power Division to procure 84,868 units of electric poles in two separate lots for rural electrification programme.
