Robi, British Council for safe use of internet

Robi and the British Council in Dhaka have joined hands to promote smart and safe ways of using internet among women and children.

To this end, they inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Robi’s corporate office in city’s Gulshan area on Monday.

The telecom operator signed the MoU as part of their corporate social responsibility project named Internet4U.

Matiul Islam Nowshad, chief corporate and people officer of Robi, and Andrew Newton, deputy director of British Council in Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides on Monday.

According to the MoU, they will organise a series of awareness sessions titled ‘Surf smart, stay safe’ for the women at the British Council in Dhaka throughout 2018.

The sessions will cover the effective use of internet (positive and negative impact), harnessing the power of internet, combating cyber harassment against women and girls, said a media release.

It will also guide the way of safe internet use and social media, introduce defence mechanism against cyber harassment/bullying in local as well as global context.

Moreover, ‘Play Internet SMART’ session will present the Robi Safe Internet to the children and their parents.

The sessions will bring multi-stakeholder professionals to share their knowledge, expertise, technology to minimise the gap between the developed and developing countries within the context of the public-private dichotomy, the release said. 

Robi’s Vice President (Communication and Corporate Responsibility) Ekram Kabir, General Manager, (Corporate Responsibility) Md. Towfiquzzaman Chowdhury, Manager (Corporate Responsibility) Nadeea Khandker, were present at the signing ceremony.

British Council’s Head of Cultural Central, Sarwat Masuda Reza, Library and Cultural Center Young Learner Programme Coordinator, Tahnee Yeasmin, were also present on the occasion.
